As a new generation of policy-makers and activists steps into the political arena, issues surrounding gender, race, and the environment are moving up in priority and inspiring new social movements. Elaine Welteroth, New York Times best-selling author, award-winning journalist, and former Editor in-Chief of Teen Vogue, joins Harriette Cole, motivational speaker, editor, presentation coach and best-selling author in a special conversation surrounding Elaine's book, More Than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say). The women will delve into Elaine's career, and how she uses her platform to bring issues of social consciousness to young people.
Throughout her magazine career, Elaine Welteroth has broken new ground as the youngest person and the second African American to hold the title of Editor-in-Chief in Condé Nast’s 107-year history. Under her leadership of Teen Vogue, the magazine notably increased coverage of news and politics, encouraging readers to become civically engaged, specifically during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. She’s now a leading expert, advocate, and voice for the next generation of change-makers. She has written for the hit show Grown-ish and has appeared on-camera for a range of media outlets including ABC News, Netflix, and is a judge on the Emmy-award winning series, Project Runway. Welteroth’s first book, More Than Enough, was published by Viking Press this past summer.
Harriette Cole is a best-selling author, editor, motivational speaker, and lifestylist and branding coach. The former Editor-in-Chief of Ebony magazine is the author of seven lifestyle books. She has coached a broad range of entertainers, including Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Saweetie, and Lil Tjay; corporations including BET Networks, Bank of America, and Digitas, as well as educational institutions such as Hunter College. In 2016, she launched an inspirational and educational initiative, DREAMLEAPERS, which is a multi-pronged engagement designed to help people access and activate their dreams.
Sister's Uptown Bookstore will be onsite for book sales of both authors.
