Apollo Music Café: Africa Now!
Natu Camara and DJ Sabine Blaizin

Curated by World Music Institute

Friday, April 3
Doors Open: 9pm

Now in its eighth season, the annual Africa Now! series celebrates the best of today’s African music scene. Tonight’s program features West African singer Natu Camara with music by DJ Sabine Blaizin.

Natu Camara
Natu Camara hails from the West African nation of Guinea. One of its brightest musical contributors, Natu, along with her multinational band, brings her fresh new sounds live to the Apollo Music Café. She is a singer, songwriter and story-teller who brings the wonders of the heart to life through her impactful lyrics and enticing rhythmic grooves. Camara's music embodies the empowerment of the human spirit. Her debut album, Dimedi (Child) takes you on the path of discovery as she weaves a beautiful tapestry of musical stories and visions of her beloved home, Guinea. As a builder of bridges socially and culturally, Camara's musical compositions are powerfully constructed to bridge the global gap between hemispheres.

DJ Sabine Blaizin
Her work focuses on the exposure and pleasures of African diasporic music. Lifestyle brand, Oyasound, is one of her current creative projects. Over the years, DJ Sabine's mainstay has been the monthly event Brooklyn Mecca, which has been coined the home of "Grassroots Dance Culture". Sabine has worked for Ocha Record label and is a Bembe nightclub resident DJ. She is also the staple DJ for Subrosa's signature monthly party Cumbancha, which featured African inspired rhythms of house, soul, latin music and more. In 2018 Sabine was a resident DJ for Fania Records' Fania Collective and was also the featured DJ for the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art's 50th Anniversary. She spins Global Soul - a mixture of house, afrotech, afrobeat, Haitian roots and beyond.
