Arts & Ideas

The Apollo is committed to articulating and projecting the African American and African diasporic narrative. Through our Arts & Ideas program initiative, the Apollo presents and produces programs from a diverse array of art, culture and educational themes which cultivates information sharing, provides career development opportunities and addresses issues of concern to our community.

The Master Artist-in-Residence program reinforces the Apollo Theater's commitment to celebrating African-American arts and culture, supporting emerging and established artists of color, and serving as an artistic, educational and community resource.

Music & Comedy

Music is at the core of the Apollo’s history and mission. Apollo Music is a program initiative designed to celebrate and expand the theater’s significance in the popular and live music arena. Programs explore a broad spectrum of genres ranging from soul, jazz, and r&b, to rock, hip-hop and world music.

The Apollo continues to celebrate its comedic rich roots by giving a platform to comedians from around the world. The Apollo Comedy Club features the best and up and coming talent in comedy today.

Apollo Film works to shine a light on films, filmmakers, festivals, and curators whose work examine narratives of the African Diaspora through film screenings, discussions, education workshops and special partnerships.

Amateur Night

Known as one of New York’s most popular live entertainment experiences, Amateur Night at the Apollo attracts performers and audiences from around the world in a classic talent competition that has launched the careers of countless legendary artists, from Ella Fitzgerald, to Lauryn Hill, H.E.R , and Machine Gun Kelly.

Be a part of the notoriously “tough” audience in a family friendly, interactive evening unlike any other, and lend your voice to decide who will “be good or be gone” to win the triumphant grand prize.

Historic Tours and Virtual Tours

Apollo tours provide audiences from all over the world an opportunity to explore the legendary history of the Apollo Theater and gain behind-the-scenes access to this iconic theater. Through virtual and in-person tours, led by Apollo historian Billy “Mr. Apollo” Mitchell, we connect the past, present, and future through storytelling, photographs and videos from the Apollo’s Archives.
