The Apollo Documentary: Watch Party

Wednesday, April 22, 2020
8PM EST

Join the Apollo Theater for a watch party and Twitter chat for the HBO documentary, The Apollo. Directed by Academy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams, The Apollo chronicles the unique history and contemporary legacy of the New York City landmark. This feature-length documentary weaves together rare archival footage, performances, interviews with artists including Patti LaBelle, Pharrell Williams, Smokey Robinson, and Jamie Foxx. It also showcases intimate behind-the-scenes verité from the stage adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me exploring the current struggle for racial justice in America, the role that art plays in that struggle, and the broad range of African American achievement that the Apollo Theater represents.

Free streaming of The Apollo is available on HBO Now and the HBO Go app. Follow us on Twitter to join in on the live chat.

Following the film, Apollo Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes hosts a Q&A with film producer Lisa Cortés and director Roger Ross Williams LIVE on Instagram @ApolloTheater!
