(Grades 8-12) Teachers of students in grades 6 & 7: please contact the Apollo Theater Education Program at 212-531-5363 for further information.

Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Award-winning book Between the World and Me is a profound work that pivots from the biggest questions about race and American history and ideals to the most intimate concerns of a father for his son. Structured in the form of a letter to his teenage son, Coates’s story moves from Baltimore's West Side to Howard University in Washington, D.C., to New York City and to Paris, France addressing along the way what it means to inhabit an African American body in America.

This special live, multimedia, theatrical performance of Between the World and Me for schools will feature readings excerpted from the book, live music, and video projection.

An educational resource guide and sample lesson plans, as well as information for preparing students to see the performance, will be provided.

We are no longer accepting reservations for this performance

Between the World and Me is co-commissioned by the Apollo Theater and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
