At this special evening of Amateur Night, winners from throughout the 2017 season square-off at the Top Dog competition and compete for the chance to move one step closer to the winning title of Super Top Dog and the cash prizes of $5,000 in the Child Star category and $20,000 in the Adult category on November 22!

Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend.  Then get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage.  At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone!

Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. And keep a lookout for C.P. Lacey, the resident Executioner who sweeps bad talent off the stage.

Every August, a festival called HARLEM WEEK celebrates the world’s best known neighborhood. And every August, Harlem’s world famous Apollo Theater joins the festivities. In addition to the excitement generated from our first-class amateurs and host, our audience is also treated to our Amateur Night at the Apollo celebration of HARLEM WEEK.

Written, produced, and filmed in Harlem, Chapter & Verse: A Harlem Story shows a reformed gang leader’s struggles to adapt to a changed community. Starring Daniel Beaty, Omari Hardwick, Loretta Devine, Selenis Leyva, and numerous Harlem actors, Chapter & Verse is available on demand now and will air on BET this fall.

On Wednesday, August 16th, Chapter & Verse’s writer/director Jamal Joseph, producer Cheryl Hill, and cast member Khadim Diop will grace our stage as Amateur Night at the Apollo celebrates HARLEM WEEK.

Additionally, NYC youth will be presented HARLEM WEEK scholarships on stage, courtesy of Citi, Harlem Community Development Corporation and The Shubert Organization, some of the city’s top companies and agencies.

On Wednesday, August 23rd, our Amateur Night at the Apollo continues celebrating HARLEM WEEK with a special performance by Harlem’s own ARC Gospel Choir, best known for their appearance on rapper Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks!” 

And Harlem residents get the added HARLEM WEEK bonus of experiencing this Amateur Night at the Apollo show for a discounted price. To take advantage of this special discount offer, Harlem residents must present a valid photo ID and proof of residence when purchasing tickets for these shows at the Apollo Box Office.
