On April 19, Amateur Night we celebrate and honor the centennial or 100th Birthday of Ella Fitzgerald. Miss Fitzgerald was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25, 1917. April is Jazz Appreciation month.

A brand new line-up of contestants competes for the chance to perform during the May 10 Show Off and move on to Top Dog on May 17. It all leads to the chance of winning the title of Super Top Dog and a cash prize of $10,000 in November!

Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend. Then get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage.  At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone!

Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. The show also features master impressionist and tap dancer CP Lacey as the “Executioner,” who escorts contestants who have been booed off the stage and the Amateur Night house band led by music director, Michael Mitchell.
