Apollo's celebration of HARLEM WEEK culminates with a guest performance by hip hop pioneer Kurtis Blow. A Harlem native, Blow was the first hip hop artist signed to a major record label, Mercury Records, where his single, "The Breaks," was the first certified gold rap song. Kurtis Blow is considered by some to be the first hip hop movie star for his role in the movie Krush Groove where he starred alongside Blair Underwood, Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, Shelia E and Run-DMC. Today, Blow is a Minister of the first Hip Hop Church where he also serves as DJ and worship leader.

A brand new line-up of contestants competes for the chance to perform during the September 7 Show Off and move on to Top Dog on November 16. It all leads to the chance of winning the title of Super Top Dog and a cash prize of $10,000 in November!
Aspiring musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, rappers and spoken word artists try their best to please the audiences that can make them an Apollo legend. Then get ready to cheer or jeer as you decide who stays and who gets booted off stage. At Amateur Night, you tell the performers to be good or be gone!
Amateur Night at the Apollo is hosted by the comedian Capone. Each show begins with a festive pre-party featuring video and music by DJ Jess. And keep a lookout for master impressionist C.P. Lacey, the resident Executioner who sweeps bad talent off the stage.
*During the month of August, Harlem residents get the benefit of experiencing Amateur Night at the Apollo shows for half-price. To receive this special offer, Harlem residents must present a valid photo ID and proof of residence when purchasing tickets at the Apollo Theater Box Office. Only two half-price tickets per Harlem resident, per show. Other restrictions may apply.
