Professional Learning

Professional Learning

The Apollo offers Professional Learning workshops for educators that references the rich history of the Apollo and Harlem to connect to classroom subject areas. Our workshops aim to energize, inspire, and provide educators with tools to connect to their own classroom curricula while meeting educational and arts standards. Professional Learning workshops are available to educators from all grade levels and disciplines. Led by Apollo Education Program staff, teaching artists, and historians, our workshops utilize a wide variety of resources, primary source materials, and hands-on group activities. Workshops are intended to benefit both educators and their students and to provide educators with methods and strategies for teaching and learning through the arts and across disciplines.

We offer half day or full day workshops that can be tailored to suit the needs of educators and their interest in exploring the Apollo Theater as a link to their own cultural and academic engagement activities.

Examples of themes explored:

  • African American history and communities in New York City and Harlem
  • 20th Century Music
  • Classroom Strategies for Teaching and Learning in the Performing Arts
